Spotlight on Smiles International with Dr. Jeff Moses

Former Carlsbad Rotary Club President and longtime member Dr. Jeff Moses recently returned to share an inspiring presentation about Smiles International, a life-changing program he leads. Jeff and a dedicated team of specialists provide surgical care for children with facial cleft differences in Tecate and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, several times a year.

Our club proudly partners with Jeff, not only by volunteering at the Tecate clinics but also by helping secure Rotary grants to support this incredible work. During his talk, Jeff educated attendees on the different types of cleft conditions and walked us through the surgical process that transforms the lives of these children. He also offered fascinating insights into the history of cleft differences and how they’ve been perceived by various cultures throughout the centuries.

We are grateful for Jeff’s leadership and passion—and proud to collaborate with him and Smiles International to bring hope and healing to so many families.

The Rotary Club of Carlsbad has played a crucial role in supporting Tecate Smiles which organizes and provides free surgical care for underprivileged children in Tecate who have deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.  In the USA and Mexico, one in every 650 children has a cleft deformity. If left untreated, the deformity can cause dental problems, speech difficulties, inability to eat and the children can become social outcasts. Rotarians form the fabric by which this project is sustained. Donating your time and resources to Tecate smiles, will change these children’s lives immediately. Here are some photos from our most recent trip.
